E-Naira Removed From Google Play Store After Series Of Complaints, Poor Rating

The E-Naira speed wallet has disappeared from the Google Play Store barely 48 hours after its launch.

The digital currency has two applications, which are eNaira speed wallet and eNaira merchant wallet.

However, the eNaira merchant wallet, which is designed for businesses, is still running and has over 10,000 downloads on the Google Play Store made available to Android users.

Checks showed that the app had only gained 1.9 stars out of 5 stars preview.

Also, in the review section, many Nigerians expressed their displeasure.

Majority of the users gave the app one star. It is not clear whether the app was removed due to the poor rating it suffered or if the CBN had done that itself.

The eNaira was developed by fintech company Bitt, which is also behind the creation of CBDC in some East Caribbean countries.

At the launch Monday, the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, said 500 million eNaira ($1.21 million) has already been minted.

Checks on the Apple App Store showed that the eNaira speed wallet was still active but had been upgraded.

To access the eNaira, users have to download the ‘speed wallet’, which allows them to conduct transactions with speed and ease. It is a digital storage that holds the eNaira and is held and managed on a distributed ledger.

Before it disappeared, the speed wallet had a rating of 2.0 from 2, 150 reviews as of Tuesday evening with many complaining of glitches.
