South Korea Confirms Omicron Variant, Records 5,000 COVID-19 Infections In One Day

The emergence of Omicron, a novel form of Coronavirus, in South Korea has been confirmed by health officials.

For the first time since the start of the epidemic, it revealed on Wednesday that more than 5,000 new Coronavirus infections were registered in a single day.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified four suspected instances of the Coronavirus Omicron variant.

Genome sequencing was supposed to be used to figure out which variant of the virus had infected the patients.

The majority of the 5,123 new cases were detected in Seoul and the country’s capital, according to reports.

However, the overall number has climbed to almost 452,000.

Over 80% of the population of about 52 million individuals has been properly vaccinated so far.

Meanwhile, for intensive care patients using Covid-19, a daily record was reported.

On Tuesday, the 700-point barrier was breached for the first time.

Intensive care beds for Coronavirus patients were over 80% occupied across the country.
