Ministers To Be Affected As Tinubu Begins Move To Clean His Cabinet

President Bola Tinubu is set to introduce a pioneering three-step method for evaluating the performance of Ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as his first year in office draws to a close.

“This will be done at three different levels. First, you have members of the public who can through the platform, get relevant information on the President Bola Tinubu’s targets for each Ministry and through that give feedback on the performance of each Minister based on the targets provided,” said a source familiar with the matter.

The innovative strategy, slated for implementation by May 29, 2024, aims to integrate public opinion into the decision-making process regarding the retention or dismissal of cabinet members and key agency leaders.

The digital platform, designed to solicit assessments from Nigerians, was scheduled for launch on Tuesday but has been postponed to allow for final preparations. According to insiders, the extension will ensure the platform’s full functionality and capacity to capture comprehensive feedback.

“The next stage will be evaluation carried out by the Policy Coordination office, and lastly, a group of Consultants will also give their assessments on the Ministers’ performance,” the source added.

Earlier indications from Hadiza Bala-Usman, the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, suggested that ministers failing to deliver on their mandates would be replaced. She emphasized the seriousness of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

“The retreat was to introduce the delivery officers to the framework of the delivery chain for progress tracking and build the officers’ capacity on monitoring of the delivery plan,” she stated.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of data in governance and urged ministers to demonstrate diligence and commitment to achieving results. The Policy Coordination Office will rely on recommendations from the first Ministerial retreat in assessing the achievements of each Minister.

With this move, some non-performing Ministers would be weeded out and replaced with new people that are capable of delivering on their mandates.
