Man jailed 14 years for defiling 14-year-old epileptic girl
A Magistrates’ Court in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State has sentenced a 53-year-old man, Vincent Akande, to 14 years imprisonment for forcibly having carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old epileptic girl, Mamuna.
The incident occurred in Ososo community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Obeze, said the incident occurred on May 12, 2019 when Mamuna was by the river side at Igbetua sieving sand to get some money for the family.
Mamuna told the court on Friday last week that Akande, a vigilante, accosted her while she was packing sand from the river and threatened her with a Dane gun before she surrendered to him.
She explained that Akande had threatened to kill her like a three-year-old girl who was raped and strangled to death by the same river side a few weeks earlier.
Mamuna said the incident was the third time that Akande forcibly had carnal knowledge of her and threatened to kill her if she dared report to her parents.
She said when she could no longer bear the agony of the rape she reported the matter to her stepmother and her father who took the matter to the community head.
Mamuna’s father said the community agreed that Akande should bring a female goat and N5,000 as fine for his offense but he refused before BraveHeart Initiative for Youth & Women (BHI), took up the matter.
Akande pleaded not guilty to the charge but the magistrate, Chief Nosa Musoe, found him guilty of the charge and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
