Makinde defeats Fayose at PDP Southwest congress

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has defeated the ex-governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose at the congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Makinde’s candidate Taofeek Arapaja emerged as new South-West  Zonal Vice Chairman of with 343 votes to defeat Eddy Olafeso, the candidate backed by the camp of Mr Fayose 

Mr Olafeso scored total of 330 votes.

While the former was declared winner, the later conceded defeat. 

“The storm is over; there is a new beginning for our party. We have to thank God that despite odds, there is a new beginning for our party. The time is now. I thank everybody who supported me,” Mr Olafeso conceded.

In his reaction, Mr Arapaja said “we thank Governor Seyi Makinde and former governor Fayose. We will work together and move the party forward. We want to reposition the party. I will work with my brother Olafeso to achieve our aims.”

Mr Fasoye has also congratulated Mr Arapaja. 

“I congratulate Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja on his emergence as the Southwest Zonal Chairman of our party, the PDP. Like I said in my speech at the beginning of the congress that we should win together and we have indeed won together,” he wrote on Twitter.
