Kano Council Bans Men, Women From Meeting In Public Places At Night

Rano Local Government Area of Kano State has prohibited people of the opposite sex from meeting together in public places at night.

As a result of reported occurrences of immoral behaviors between males and females, including divorcees, a bye-law was adopted to this effect.

According to the municipal authorities, lovers can now only meet during the day to talk.

According to Habibu Faragai, the local government’s communications officer, the law was introduced by the council chairman, Dahiru Muhammad, at a security committee meeting attended by locals and traditional elders.

The committee had expressed concern about the high rate of immorality in the local government region, according to Muhammad, and this issue prompted the council to pass the new law.

He explained that the law was enacted to clean up the council area of immoral actions that occurred during late-night discussions between the sexes.

The head of the council urged the state’s Islamic police Hisbah board and other local security officials to ensure compliance and arrest violators.

Mannir Tafida-Abubakar, the district head of Rano, also urged village and ward chiefs, as well as Imams throughout the council area, to ensure that inhabitants follow the new law.

According to Tafida-Abubakar, the area is experiencing three key challenges verging on immorality, which have become a source of concern for people.

“Parents must welcome the decision and support it. If parents do not cooperate and such things happen again, the affected will face the consequences of their negligence,” the traditional ruler said.

In 2019, the state government made it illegal for people of the opposing gender to ride on the same commercial tricycle.
