JUST IN: Uncertainty As Gunmen Kidnap Corpse, Reveal What They Want
Suspected kidnappers have struck in Ameze Owerre, Umabor community, Nsukka local government area of Enugu State, abducting the remains of late Ugwuanyi Israel while it was being transported from Lagos to Nsukka for burial arrangements.
The shocking incident unfolded along the 9th Mile Road in the Umuoka community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, where the gunmen not only seized the deceased’s body but also abducted all family members accompanying it.
A family source lamented: “His corpse was on its way from Lagos yesterday (Sunday) when the vehicle conveying his body was halted by kidnappers, and people in the vehicle alongside the driver were all kidnapped at Umuoka, Udi LGA of Enugu State.”
The abductors have reportedly made contact with the family, demanding a hefty ransom of N50 million. The source expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of the deceased’s body, fearing it might decompose before their release, especially considering the substantial expenses incurred by family members in Lagos on Israel’s medical treatment.
Calling for urgent intervention, she appealed to both the security agencies and the state government to rescue those held captive.
As of the time of this report, the Police are yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
