JUST IN: Emefiele Pleads Not Guilty To Fresh Charges Involving Over N18B

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, faced arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

The charges revolve around his approval of printing N684.5 million at the rate of N18.96 billion.

However, Emefiele entered a plea of not guilty to the four counts when presented before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court, Abuja.

The EFCC levied accusations against Emefiele, alleging that he disregarded the law with the intention to harm the public during the implementation of the naira swap policy under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Additionally, he was accused of unlawfully approving the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

This arraignment adds to the three charges already pending against the former CBN Governor.
