JUST IN: Appeal Court Upholds Conviction Of Maina’s Son

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Court of Appeal upheld Faisal’s conviction for conspiracy and money laundering on Thursday. Faisal is the son of Abdulrasheed Maina.

Maina, Faisal’s father, is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence at Kuje Prison in Abuja. Maina was formerly the chairman of the disbanded Pension Reform Taskforce Team.

Faisal was identified as a co-conspirator in Maina’s alleged N2 billion pension theft.

On the grounds that Faisal is a first-time offender, a three-member panel of the appellate court reduced the sentence from 14 years to seven years in a ruling on Thursday.

Justice Ugochukwu Anthony Ogakwu in the judgement on Thursday held that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja was right to have convicted Faisal.

He said, “But as a first-time offender, the trial court ought not to have handed the convict the maximum punishment under the law.”
