Insecurity: “I’ve Done My Best, I Hope On God” — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he hopes “God will hear our prayers,” and that his administration has done all possible to reduce insecurity, which has persisted since he took office in 2015.

“We have done our best and will continue to do more by following coherent and consistent policies to deal with terrorism,” the president said during a visit to the State House in Abuja on Friday by Tidjani Ali Bin Arabi, the Grand Khalifa (worldwide leader) of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement.

The federal government, according to the president, is well aware of its security responsibilities and will continue to do its best.

Mr Buhari encouraged Nigerians to be fair to his government in judging the country’s security situation by focusing on what had been accomplished when he assumed office in 2015, as well as the triumphs and performance that marked a significant departure from the past.

He highlighted the administration’s achievements in the North-East and South-South, noting that the North-West, which had caused the nation some “headache,” will see a change for the better.

Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno state, noted in January that swaths of territory in the state’s northern and southern regions were under Boko Haram ISWAP control. The Nigerian senate agreed with his warning.

Mr Buhari was greeted at Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, by rocket attacks by rebels a few kilometers from the airport, just before he landed down in December.

The president asked Nigerians to take responsibility for their security and to take an interest in what the government is currently doing.

The federal government, according to the president, is well aware of its security responsibilities and will continue to do its best.

The president took the opportunity to express gratitude to the governor of Kano State for bringing the Grand Khalifa to Nigeria.
