Imo Prison Break: Ex-AIG Accuses IPOB Agitators Of Being Desperate To Create Biafra Republic

Ambrose Aisabor, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, has responded to the attack by unknown gunmen on a correctional facility and the Police Command Headquarters in Owerri, Imo State’s capital, on Monday.

In his argument, Aisabor accused IPOB agitators of being desperate to declare the Biafra republic, hence the need to boost their arsenal by targeting security agencies.

He went on to say that the progress explains why the Eastern Security Network, or ESN, hasn’t attacked innocent people.

“If you look at it, they aren’t targeting regular people,” he said. That is what they are doing: targeting the police, the army, and the air force.”

“They are targeting those military formations because they want to have enough ammunition to carry out their war against Nigeria’s government. They want their own police force, as well as their own armoury and other facilities.”

He went on to say that the proscribed group’s security outfit has been so bold as to target security agencies as a result of the security agencies’ inability to gather intelligence.

According to the former AIG, it is past time for security agencies to strengthen their intelligence collection in order to prevent potential attacks.

He also urged the federal government to convene an urgent national security summit with all stakeholders, including security experts, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and government officials, to find solutions to the country’s insecurity, especially in the south-east.
