I Have No Reason To Dump PDP For APC — Zamfara Lawmaker

Hon. Usman Zurmi, a lawmaker in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, has questioned why Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle is bothering the state’s number one opposition party, the PDP, claiming that he was elected Governor of the state through the party he is now haunting.

The lawmaker told DAILY POST in Gusau, the state capital, that the APC-led government in the state is unwilling to accept any opposition.

“I’m really surprised why things are happening this way. The court has given an order that everyone should maintain status quo but the government does not want to obey the court order,” he lamented.

In response to questioning from this medium about how he coordinates with other members of the State House of Assembly given that he is the only PDP member in the chamber, the legislator stated that lawmaking is not a personal or political matter.

The congressman who chairs the committee on tertiary institutions stated that he is opposed to every member of the PDP defecting to the APC, claiming that one cannot bite the hands that feed oneself.

“I don’t have any problem with my colleagues because of my refusal to defect to APC. Even though I am alone in the House, there has never been any problem.”

Nobody can force Hon. Zurmi to abandon the PDP in favor of the APC, he said, because the PDP brought him to the House and he would not betray the trust.

When Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, his followers, and members of the State House of Assembly defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC), the lawmaker refused to join them.

He told the DAILY POST that he did not decamp because he saw no need to abandon the party that propelled him to power.
