How Doctor’s Last Minute Battle To Save Akeredolu’s Life Failed
The news of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s death has emerged, sending shockwaves through the country, especially during the ongoing Christmas festivities.
Reports indicate that efforts were made by medical professionals to save his life, with particular emphasis on his status as a top political figure deserving of comprehensive medical care.
Governor Akeredolu’s treatment occurred within the country, specifically in Lagos State, unlike previous practices of flying high-profile patients abroad for medical attention. The decision to keep his treatment domestically might have been influenced by the critical nature of his condition, making international travel too risky.
While details regarding the difficulty in flying him abroad remain unclear, the governor’s deteriorating health led to his eventual passing. Confirming the sad news, a family source succinctly stated, “Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos.” Giving further insight on how efforts to save the ailing Governor might have failed, the source added, “They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.”
At the time of his demise, Governor Akeredolu was 67 years old.
The governor had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, Akeredolu handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, before embarking on another medical leave.
Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has been serving as the Acting Governor in his absence. Akeredolu’s attempts to govern remotely from Ibadan, Oyo State, after his return in September, had sparked public criticism.
