Buhari’s Minister Demands Castration For Perpetrators Of Rape, Incest

Pauline Tallen, the Minister of Women’s Affairs and Social Development, has called for the castration of incest and rape abusers in the country.

She spoke at a news conference on Monday as part of activities to welcome Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, to Nigeria.

The minister, according to the Daily Trust, described castration as the most appropriate penalty for criminals and added that naming and shaming perpetrators will help to diminish the threat.

She said, “It’s the worst crime against any child. It’s not only the child that’s badly traumatised and she’ll live with it for life. The mother too will remain traumatised all her life and for that, we’re advocating a very stringent punishment for such cases of incest.

“If we do one or two, I believe the high burden of incest and rape will drop, and that’s why we’re insisting that all states must domesticate the VAP Act and the Child Rights Act, but not just domesticating it, but ensuring high implementation.”
