Hardship: FG Speaks On Push To Make Tinubu Resign
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stood firm in his assertion that President Bola Tinubu has no intention of resigning amid the nation’s economic challenges.
In a statement released and signed by his Media Special Assistant, Rabiu Ibrahim, Idris addressed the calls from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors for Tinubu’s resignation due to economic hardships.
According to Idris, such calls from the opposition are merely attempts to divert attention away from supporting the president’s efforts to alleviate the economic burdens faced by Nigerians. He criticized the PDP and its governors for resorting to intimidation tactics, emphasizing their failure to achieve significant change through democratic processes since 2015.
Highlighting Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to financial support for all state governments regardless of party affiliations, Idris pointed out the removal of the petrol subsidy, a key aspect of the PDP’s presidential campaign, which has boosted revenues for all states. He stressed that with greater support comes greater expectations.
Idris further elaborated on the ongoing efforts of President Tinubu’s administration to revitalize the national economy, which were initiated under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. These efforts include extensive infrastructure projects, social welfare programs, and prioritizing the needs of the military and security agencies to enhance Nigeria’s standing internationally.
Addressing security concerns, Idris noted significant progress in combating threats from groups like Boko Haram and bandits, indicating a positive trajectory in securing the nation.
He reminded Nigerians of the APC administration’s accomplishments in clearing various financial liabilities inherited from the PDP government, including subsidy claims, refunds, and unpaid pensions. Additionally, Idris highlighted ongoing reforms in the oil sector, underscoring the APC’s commitment to delivering tangible results that had long eluded the PDP.
