Gumi Urges Govt To Build Schools For Bandits To End Insecurity

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has called on the Federal Government to construct schools for bandits.

The billions of Naira spent on weapons, according to Gumi, should be utilized to create schools for bandits.

He stated that the majority of the bandits he spoke with are willing to lay down their weapons and embrace education.

Gumi made the statement yesterday at the Uthman Dan Fodio Centre at Kagarko Grazing Reserve Kohoto Village, Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The Islamic scholar emphasized that the greatest way to prevent Fulani herdsmen from becoming involved in unrest is through education.

According to Gumi: “Instead of spending billions on hardware, spend it on schools. I have spoken to lots of them, they have agreed to lay down their weapons and embrace education.

“The herdsmen take cattle for grazing in the morning, come back and study in the evening. Before then, we would run primary and secondary schools at intervals.

“We have a hospital also at the centre as well as an economic booster on showing them how to feed their animals.

“If we can replicate this everywhere, Nigeria will be in peace.”
