Just In: Twitter Deletes Buhari’s ‘Genocidal Tweet’
Popular microblogging website Twitter has finally listened to Nigerians as the social network deleted the genocidal tweet made by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Thousands of Nigerians took to the social network yesterday calling for the deletion of the tweet made by the President, where he was reacting to the destruction of 42 facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across Nigeria, particularly in the South-East.
The president in the tweet stated that the people responsible for the destruction would “soon have the shock of their lives.”
He added in the thread that “many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
This tweet, however, did not sit well amongst Nigerian who felt the President failed to resolve the nation’s protracted security crisis but vowing to unleash violence similar to what the Igbos suffered at the hands of federal government-controlled soldiers during the civil war.
With all that said, Twitter has now finally taken action by deleting the tweets, and this said tweet that caused uproar yesterday is nowhere to be found on the social network.
