BREAKING: Former JAMB Registrar, Ojerinde Remanded In Prison Over N5.2b Fraud
Professor Adedibu Ojerinde, the former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has been remanded in custody by a Federal High Court in Abuja for suspected N5.2 billion fraud.
In a judgement issued on Tuesday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered that Ojerinde be held in a detention facility until his bail application is heard on July 8.
Ojerinde, clad in white native garb, was arraigned on an 18-count charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/97/2021, in which he was accused, among other things, of involvement in the diversion of public monies worth over N5.2 billion, according to sources.
According to the prosecuting body, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), Ojerinde committed the alleged offenses between 2003 to 2021 while serving as the Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO).
When the charge was read to Ojerinde, he pled not guilty.
Following that, his lawyer, Peter Olorunnishola (SAN), notified the court of a bail application he had submitted and served on the prosecution.
Olorunnishola, on the other hand, requested more time to respond to the counter-affidavit filed by the prosecution’s counsel, Ebenezer Shogunle, which the defence lawyer said was delivered late.
Shogunle, who did not object to Olorunnishola’s plea for time, objected the defence lawyer’s request that his client be allowed to remain on administrative bail, which the ICPC had previously granted him, while his bail application was being heard.
