El Clasico: Why Xavi slapped Vinicius twice during Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid

There was a tension in the touchline during the Barcelona and Real Madrid clash on Saturday.

It started when Barcelona coach reproached Vinicius Junior for his continuous protests.

Xavi was angry with Vinicius and vehemently scolded him for protesting against what the Brazilian considered a foul on him by  Ronald Araujo.

But Xavi’s outbursts and his shouting did not go down well with Vinicius, who went to the touchline to ask him for an explanation.

And the Spaniard responded saying, “Nothing, nothing, it’s nothing, it’s nothing, it’s nothing!”

But Vinicius’ continued protest caused Xavi to explode and the player did not take it lightly.

The winger disliked Xavi’s approach and handling of the situation especially as he accused him of diving earlier in the game.

Vinicius was already livid because he felt he was on the receiving end as referee Gil Manzano ignored most of his foul calls.

The tension led to a confrontation on the touchline between Xavi and Vinicius.

As Vinicius kept asking for explanations; Xavi tapped him on the shoulder, insisting it had been a fair challenge.

The Spaniard, who is a playing legend at Camp Nou, tried to defuse the tension by giving Vinicius a couple of affectionate slaps on the Brazilian’s face.
