Edo Election: PDP Faction Sends Message To APC Candidate, Challenges Obaseki
The Legacy Group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman, South-South, extended commendation to Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for his collaborative efforts with the federal government in commencing rehabilitation work on the Benin-Auchi-Okenne road.
The group also challenged Obaseki to show what he has done for the people of Edo State in his tenure as the Governor.
However, they made it clear that their support in the upcoming governorship election would be contingent upon Governor Godwin Obaseki’s demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people and the state.
Expressing their grievances during a meeting in Irrua, Esan Central local government area, Orbih highlighted their sense of neglect by the Obaseki administration, despite their pivotal role in securing his re-election in 2020. The sentiment echoed in similar meetings held in Edo South and Edo North.
Orbih, alongside notable party figures such as former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly Frank Okiye, emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing the state’s future over party affiliations. He underscored the dissatisfaction among PDP members in Edo state, asserting that the Obaseki government had failed to deliver on its promises to the people.
Addressing the attendees, Orbih remarked, “Whoever will address the problem of our people and give our people a strong sense of belonging is the person we are going to vote for.” He urged vigilance and discernment, warning against being deceived again.

Hon. Felix Akhabue, the group’s leader in Edo Central, reiterated their disenchantment with the treatment received from the PDP leadership, both in the 2023 and 2024 elections, despite their significant contributions to Governor Obaseki’s victory in 2020. He emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to demand fair treatment from the party leadership or face opposition from the Legacy Group.
