Ebonyi guber: PDP chairman rejects party candidate, backs rotation of power

Less than 24 hours to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Ebonyi State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie has rejected its party’s gubernatorial candidate, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and instead backs the rotation of power to Ebonyi North senatorial zone.

DAILY POST recalls that Odii and Governor David Umahi the incumbent governor who is completing his eight-year tenure, both hail from Ebonyi South senatorial zone.

“It has been generally agreed that it is only fair that Ebonyi North should produce the next governor in the spirit of equity. I hereby lend my voice in calling on the few who are yet to fully grasp the importance of this decision to join hands in ensuring that we do not mortgage the future by subverting the power equation of the state as conceived by our founding fathers,” he said.

Okorie, who was allegedly suspended by the party, said that the state PDP legal adviser, Mudi Erhenede and the deputy chairman, Ifeanyi Nworie should be blamed for the party’s downfall.

The embattled state PDP chairman made this known through a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki.

Erhenede and Nworie earlier said the challenges facing the party in the state were due to multiple litigation allegedly orchestrated by Okorie.
