Drama as suspected notorious robber ‘thanks’ Police for his arrest, begs officers to go after his gang members

A suspected armed robbery gang leader, Sunday Ikwo, has expressed gratitude to men of the Nigeria Police for capturing him after many years of onslaughts.

Ikwo, aged 35, was arrested recently by the Special Squad of the Police in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State for allegedly robbing residents of the community.

When he was paraded by the operatives after his arrest, Ikwo, who confessed that he had been carrying out his operations with the aid of charms, said he was grateful to the Police for their efforts in ensuring security in the area.

He claimed he had turned a new leaf and that he would not go back to crimes again.

According to the squad, Ikwo and other fleeing suspects go to people’s houses to rob them and remove electrical fittings on the walls. They also attacked motorcyclists and robbed them of their properties.

The suspect, an indigene of Ebonyi State, agreed to assist police officers in apprehending fleeing members of his gang, saying he was tired of committing crimes and dispossessing people of their belongings.

Ikwo said he lived in Obieze area of Ifitedunu for years and that he had committed many atrocities in the community.

“I want to help security agencies to restore security and order in Ifitedum. I thank them (police officers) for everything they do and I am ready to be a changed man.

“It is true all these charms were discovered in my house. These are the charms I use in my operations and I also prepare some for members of my gang, including those who come from other communities for their robbery operations.

“I got these charms from a herbalist in Aguleri town called ‘Man Pass Man’. I specilaise in robbing people of their motorcycles and I also attack market women while returning from markets,” the ex-convict said.

“What the Police are doing is good and once they arrest all my gang members, Ifitedunu will be safe and free of crimes. I will assist the police to do that. What I have been doing in this community is not good and I regret them,” he added.
