Despite repeated killings of soldiers by insurgents, Buhari says service chiefs are ‘doing well’

President Muhammadu Buhari says the newly appointed service chiefs and acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali are doing well.

The president stated this while answering questions from journalists when he returned from the United Kingdom on Thursday.

Mr Buhari has been away since March 30 for routine medical check-up.

He appointed Mr Alkali as the new acting IGP from London.  The appointment came at a critical time when security agencies are being targeted in some parts of the country and crimes and violence are on the rise in virtually all parts of Nigeria.

Mr Alkali was announced a few days after the police headquarters and a prison in Owerri, Imo State, were attacked by gunmen.

Speaking on his appointees running the security affairs of the nation, he said “they have been in the system all the way, they know what is wrong. They know what is right and I think they are doing their best. I hope their best will be good enough for Nigeria.”
