COVID-19: University Of Ibadan Denies Death Of Staff, Students

The University of Ibadan (UI) has denied accusations that several of its personnel and students died as a result of COVID-19 problems.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Olatunji Oladejo, the Director of Public Communications, clarified the situation (NAN).

At a zoom session, acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adebola Ekanola only indicated UI could record deaths if safeguards against the Delta strain were not adopted, according to Oladejo.

The official recalled that the management had requested that all protocols be followed in its July 19 quarterly bulletin.

“Where were the families and names of those who are dead, either members of staff or students?” he quipped.

According to Oladejo, no verified cases of COVID-19 or a rise in flu-related/flu-like symptoms have been reported by the University’s Health Services.

The director announced that all advised precautions would be fully implemented at all levels.

“All hands must be on deck, especially in the Halls of Residence, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Each person must take direct responsibility for his/her health safety,” Oladejo added.
