Court Sentences Sudan Military Officers To Death For Killing Protesters
During the violent suppression of the protests, around 120 people were killed, though the exact number is unknown.
Days after the protests, nine members of the RSF were detained.
According to Reuters, the civilian court in Al-obeid, where the officers were prosecuted, stated in a statement on the convictions that the officers disregarded RSF law and acted unilaterally, as “their actions have no reference to the forces they were part of.”
Six defendants were sentenced to death by Judge Mohamed Rahma, two were acquitted, and one was committed to juvenile court since he was a kid.
The deceased, including 4 schoolchildren, were part of a student protest following the June 3, 2019 killing of dozens of protesters pushing for democratic rule.

The protests were held after the military overthrew President Omar al-Bashir, who had been in power for about 30 years.
Similarly, RSF officer Youssef al-Fiky was sentenced to death in May over the murder of a civilian with his car during the protests disruptions.
