BREAKING: Zulum Orders Investigation As BOGIS Task Force Demolish EYN Church In Borno

Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno, has ordered the Borno police command to examine a violent collision between a joint security task force working with the Borno Geographical Information System and several congregants at an EYN Church branch in Maduganari, Maiduguri.

This was said in a press statement sent by the Governor’s spokeswoman, Isa Gusau, to journalists.

During an encounter on Thursday, the Governor strongly denounced the discharge of firearms by a member of the security task force, as well as some individuals who threw stones at the task force. Five people have been admitted to the hospital, one of whom has died.

Zulum expressed his condolences to the families of those who had died and those who had been injured.

The Governor also met with Bishop Mohammed Naga, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State, to express his condolences to the Christian community, leadership, and family of the EYN church in Borno.

Zulum has also called the CAN leadership to a meeting at Government House in Maiduguri today at 5:30 p.m.

The Governor also asked Umar Kadafur, the deputy governor, to pay a visit to the hospital where five injured people are being treated, empathize with them, and assume responsibility for their medical costs.

On Thursday, authorities from BOGIS and a joint security task force went to church to discuss land administration and urban development measures, some of which have impacted worship centers (mosques and churches) that were established without following the rules. For ongoing reforms, the BOGIS has dismantled scores of unlawfully constructed mosques and churches.
