BREAKING: Many Feared Killed As Bandits Launch House-To-House Raid In Buhari’s Home State

According to the Daily Trust, several people are believed to have been slain and houses burned down in new attacks on communities in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Government Area.

Hundreds of residences, including government structures and cars, were set ablaze during the onslaught, which apparently began Tuesday evening and lasted into the early hours of Wednesday.

According to witnesses, the armed men attacked five communities, killing or injuring an unknown number of people.

“In each of the communities invaded, the gunmen fired sporadically into the air to register their presence before going from house to house, looting victims of valuables and harassing residents,” a source was quoted as saying.

One of the victims of the attack was a lawyer named Barr. Nura Hassan Wagine, according to reports.

Several of the victims were injured while attempting to flee the onslaught of the marauding gunman, according to the source.

When contacted, Hon. Jabir Yauyau, the Member of the Katsina State House of Assembly representing Batsari, said he had heard about the unfortunate incidents but was still gathering information.

Because of the lack of a telecommunications network in the area, he noted, specifics of what transpired would be difficult to obtain for the time being.

“It is confirmed that the attack took place, but the casualties and the extent of damage caused is not yet known, especially because of the lack of mobile network in the area.”

“I am told about the majority of those killed. They are people I know personally, but I still need to confirm. I am trying to ascertain what actually happen because I am going to move a motion on matters of public importance in the house, but I have to get the actual thing,” he said.

Despite being President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, Katsina has seen sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers that have claimed many lives.

In the last five months, gunmen are said to have killed around 700 individuals in the state’s Jibia, Kankara, Dutsinma, Musawa, Danmusa, and Safana local government areas.

While Buhari was visiting Kankara on December 11, 2020, several bandits abducted 344 pupils from Government Science Secondary School. A week later, they were released.

On the same day, 84 Hizburrahim Islamiyya students in Mahuta hamlet, in the state’s Dandume Local Government Area, were kidnapped but recovered shortly thereafter.
