Twitter Deletes Nnamdi Kanu’s ‘Genocidal’ Tweet
Twitter, the world’s largest microblogging site, has purportedly removed tweets by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for breaking the bird app’s guidelines.
According to NEWS DIRECT, the tweet was placed on Kanu’s Twitter account on June 2, but it was no longer accessible as of Saturday evening.
According to reports, the tweet was issued in response to the federal government’s decision to intervene in attacks on security formations in the southeast, which have resulted in the deaths of a number of security personnel.
According to reports, Kanu threatened government officials in the post, saying, “Any army they deploy to #Biafraland would die there.” Even if it means sacrificing my people, none of them will return alive.”
This newest development came after the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, ordered a suspension.
Lai Mohammed, who announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, claimed that the social media networking site was instigating violence and spreading fake news in the country, charges that many Nigerians have long denied and the suspension extensively criticised by the international community.
The president, through Garba Shehu, also reacted to the development, alleging that the federal government’s intention to restrict twitter operations in the country is just to protect Nigerians from unwanted social media influences.
