BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints New EFCC Chairman, Secretary

President Bola Tinubu has appointed new leadership for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Ola Olukoyede has been selected as the new Executive Chairman of the Commission, while Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda will serve as the new Secretary.

President Tinubu’s decision was in accordance with the powers vested in him under section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, which states that the Chairman and members of the Commission, except ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President. Mr. Olukoyede, a lawyer with over 22 years of experience in regulatory compliance and fraud management, has previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023). His appointment fulfills the statutory requirement for the position of Chairman. This appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Additionally, Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda, a public administrator with expertise in public finance management, has been appointed as the Secretary of the EFCC. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same institution. Hammajoda’s career includes experience as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and successful roles in banking, including at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.

President Tinubu has charged the new EFCC leadership with the responsibility to justify the confidence placed in them, emphasizing the importance of a renewed and reformed anti-corruption sector in his administration’s agenda.
