BREAKING: Sunday Igboho Sends Message To DSS, Army, Others, Makes Key Demand
Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho), has urged security agencies to swiftly identify and prosecute herders responsible for recent attacks on farmers in Iwere-Ile, Oyo State, and several communities in Ogun State.
In a statement, Igboho stressed the need for farmers in Yoruba land, and across Nigeria, to be protected from criminal herders and others hindering their peaceful farming activities. He called upon the Police, Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Army to address the security breaches promptly.
Expressing his concerns about the resurgence of farmer killings, especially considering the nation’s ongoing challenges, Igboho urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate incidents like the ambush and killing of Amotekun Security Corps operatives in Iwere-Ile. He emphasized the importance of holding the culprits accountable.
While appreciating the efforts of Oyo State Governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Igboho challenged security agency heads to act swiftly. He issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herders involved in killings across Southwest Nigeria to vacate the communities. Igboho emphasized that while they wouldn’t resort to violence, the herders must leave.
Igboho expressed confidence in the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, to ensure the safety of lives and properties, particularly farmers. He urged Oyo and Ogun State governors to deploy more security agents to flashpoints experiencing increased clashes between Fulani herders and farmers. Igboho stressed the urgent need for security presence, enabling farmers to engage in farming activities without fear, emphasizing the necessity of ending these killings for the well-being of all.
