BREAKING: Strike: NASU, SSANU, NAAT Block UNILAG Gate, Ground Universities (PHOTO)

On Wednesday, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) at the University of Lagos organized a peaceful protest at the school’s entrance.

Their demonstration resulted in the blockage of vehicular movement and disrupted traffic flow in the vicinity. Amidst singing and brandishing various placards, they voiced their grievances against the Federal Government’s withholding of their salaries.

For approximately a month, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU had been urging the government to address their exclusion from salary payments, which commenced for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in February.

Their salaries were withheld during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari when the government implemented a ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy in response to strikes by ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS lasting eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months respectively in 2022.

Additionally, NAATS initiated a three-day warning strike in solidarity with their counterparts.

The strike has also resulting in the grounding of activities in various universities across the country. The protesting union members insist that they would not render their services and would ensure that activities in the universities are paralysed until the federal government yields to their demands.
