BREAKING: Senate Decides On Tinubu’s Top Appointment Amid Kicks
The Senate has taken a decision on the key appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
The Upper Legislative Chamber approved President Tinubu’s appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) despite the kicks that greeted it over his qualification to occupy the top post. The Senate also okayed the nomination of Muhammad Hammajoda as the Commission’s Secretary.
Both nominations by President Tinubu underwent screening and confirmation proceedings at the National Assembly complex. Their appointments, announced on October 12, 2023, were subject to Senate confirmation.
According to Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, Olukoyede’s appointment is for an initial renewable term of four years, while Hammajoda’s appointment as the EFCC Secretary is for an initial renewable term of five years, both pending Senate confirmation.
While the appointment of Hammajoda drew no controversy, that of Olukoyede has been in the news amid kicks for him to be dropped because he was not a staff of the police with the rank of Assistant Commission of Police or its equivalent as stipulated by the relevant legal provisions.
