JUST IN: Tinubu Vows To Complete East-West Road, Revamp Refineries In Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged that his administration will give top priority to completing the East-West Road due to its crucial significance not only to the Niger Delta states but to the entire nation.
The East-West Road serves as the primary link connecting the South-South States to other regions in Nigeria and has suffered from neglect and deterioration over the years.
Represented by the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, President Tinubu made this assertion during the opening of the 6th meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta (NCND) themed: ‘Stimulating strategies for economic growth and development in the Niger Delta region.’
He emphasized that the government is restructuring the Ministry of Niger Delta Development and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to unify all development plans of agencies and partners operating in the region into a single integrated regional development plan to fulfill their mandates effectively.
Tinubu reaffirmed his dedication to reviving the country’s refineries to ensure the availability of petroleum products and a decrease in retail prices.
He stated, “It will gladden you to note that my administration has demonstrated interest in repositioning the NDDC to ensure it delivers optimally on its objectives and mandate, and to make its achievements manifest in different sectors of life across the Niger Delta region.
“The East-West Road project is the largest infrastructure project in Nigeria today, and the reason is not far-fetched; It is a very strategic road connecting the nation’s busiest and foremost commercial cities in the country.
“Its completion is a priority to this administration, and this I assure you will be delivered in the very nearest future. On a broader scale, we are dedicated to ensuring that our local refineries across the Niger Delta and other parts of the country are made operational soonest.”
