BREAKING: Protest, Gunshots Rock Rivers APC Secretariat Over Screening
During screening on Wednesday morning, gunshots erupted amid protests near the All Progressives Congress secretariat on Woji Road, GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Hundreds of APC loyalists loyal to Senator Magnus Abe, a former federal lawmaker, flocked to the venue, alleging a hijacking of state assembly aspirant screening and ward/state delegate selection.
Members of the aggrieved party claimed they arrived at the secretariat around 6:00 a.m. to find the gate locked and keyed.
Trouble began when some of the youths tried to force open the gates, prompting police officers stationed inside the party secretariat to fire into the air.
The gunfire produced chaos in the neighborhood, with journalists covering the demonstrators and news crews fleeing for their lives.
