BREAKING: Panic Over Lives Of Tenants As Another Building Collapses In Lagos

Another building has collapsed in Lagos State leaving many in panic over the safety of the tenants.

The two-storey building situated along Herbert Marculley Way, Ebute Metta, Lagos, collapsed around 9:30 am on Friday, trapping at least one woman.

The woman was reportedly an illegal occupant of the building, as the residents had previously received an evacuation notice from the Lagos Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

Ibrahim Farinloye, the Territorial Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos, confirmed the collapse, stating, “A two-storey building with a penthouse collapsed at about 0930 hours along Herbert Marculley way, Ebute Metta. It is suspected that a woman illegally occupying it was trapped, though it is suspected that there could be additional two people, but no one could confirm that yet.”

Farinloye also mentioned that LASBCA had issued evacuation notices multiple times, and all original occupants had already vacated the premises. He added, “Three of the occupants jumped to safety with the assistance of the residents. Search and rescue operation is ongoing.”
