BREAKING: Kano Controversial Sheikh, Abduljabar’s Lawyers Withdraw Their Services

The legal team defending Kano’s notorious sheikh, Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, who is accused of making blasphemous statements against the Prophet of Islam, has abruptly withdrew their services.

In a withdrawal letter to the Upper Sharia Court, presided over by Justice Sarki Yola, titled “Withdrawal from the case between Kano State Government and Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, with file number CR/1/2021 and case file number CR/631/2021,” the defense lawyers, led by Saleh M Bagoro and including HG Magashi and Bashir Savoy, said they had decided to withdraw their services after meeting with the prosecution.

“We took the decision to withdraw from the case after meeting with our Client at the Kurmawa Correctional Center, by this, we are informing the Court of our withdrawal from the case as defence lawyers”, Barrister Saleh M Bagoro said.

It will be recalled that the case’s presiding judge, Justice Sarki Yola, had ordered the sheikh’s health to be checked after he refused to answer a series of questions posed to him in court at the previous sitting.

Sheikh Abduljabar refused to speak after the government’s main attorney, Suraj Said, submitted new allegations against him, causing a misunderstanding between the defendant’s lawyers and the government’s lawyers.

However, the presiding judge, Sarki Yola, consented to allow the new allegations brought by the Kano State Government’s lawyers to be included in the case, but only if the accused, Sheikh Abduljabar, answers affirmatively or rejects the charges.

Sheikh Abduljabar’s lawyers protested to the new charges and urged him not to respond to anything said against him, which caused him to remain silent when the presiding judge questioned him if he was guilty or not.

Although the judge disregarded their concerns and ordered Abduljabbar to react to the additional charges, his counsel requested that he remain silent, which he did.
