BREAKING: FG Gives Update On Closure, Work On Third Mainland Bridge
The federal Government has given an update on the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge because of repair work.
The repair work has now been completed. This was disclosed by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos. She expressed satisfaction with the repairs carried out on the Third Mainland Bridge, ensuring motorists of a smooth journey until the initiation of a comprehensive rehabilitation in January 2024.
During an on-the-spot assessment of the repairs on Sunday, Kesha confirmed the completion of remedial work on a 9.7-kilometer stretch of the Lagos Island in-bound lane, between Iyana-Oworo and Adeniji-Adele. She emphasized that the recent construction was a temporary measure to maintain the highway’s condition until the extensive rehabilitation scheduled for January 2024.
Kesha clarified that some necessary components for the comprehensive rehabilitation were being imported, facilitating the commencement of emergency repairs. She detailed that the general rehabilitation would involve the complete removal and replacement of the asphalt surface. Damaged ramps and expansion joints would be replaced, and essential repairs, including the painting of parapet walls, would be conducted.
The Federal Controller of Works outlined the rehabilitation project’s timeline, revealing that the contract awarded in January would span six months, divided into two phases of three months each. The comprehensive repairs aim to rejuvenate the bridge’s infrastructure, giving it a new appearance and enhanced durability.
While urging road users to enjoy the smooth ride on the highway, Kesha emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic and safety regulations to ensure a safe travel experience.
