BREAKING: Drama As Ighodalo Denies Obaseki After Winning Edo PDP Guber Ticket

Asue Ighodalo, the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Edo State, has asserted that no individual can dictate the gubernatorial candidate for the people of the state.

He debunked speculations suggesting that Governor Godwin Obaseki is his political godfather, emphasizing their longstanding friendship spanning approximately four decades.

Ighodalo emphasized the impossibility of imposing a candidate on the people of Edo State, asserting their collective right to choose their leader.

On his victory, declared by Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and the primary election’s returning officer, Ighodalo’s emergence is believed to be due to Obaseki’s preference for him to be his successor.

Meanwhile, the state’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, secured victory in the parallel governorship primary conducted at his residence.

Dismissing notions of political godfatherism, Ighodalo clarified in an interview with Channels Television, “Nobody can impose anybody on the people of Edo state. It is impossible. Governor Obaseki is not my political godfather. He is my friend.”

He further reiterated their longstanding camaraderie since 1977, underscoring mutual respect between them.
