BREAKING: Court Convicts Ex-Pension Boss, Maina Of Money Laundering

Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), was found guilty of money laundering.

On Monday, a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Mr Maina stole nearly N2 billion from pensioners.

According to the report, the majority of the victims “had passed away without realizing the benefits of their labor.”

“I find the defendant (Mr Maina) guilty and convicted in counts 2, 6, 9, 3, 7 and 10,” said trial judge Justice Okon Abang.

Maina was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2015.

Maina was wanted for his role in the bogus biometric contracts through which he, a former Head of Service, Steve Oronsaye, and two others reportedly took over N2 billion in pension money, according to the commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren.

On July 21, 2015, a Federal High Court indicted Maina, Oronsaye, Osarenkhoe Afe, and Fredrick Hamilton Global Services Limited with 24 charges of procurement fraud and acquiring by false pretenses.

Maina had previously fled the country just days after a Federal High Court granted him bail with Ali Ndume, a serving senator, as surety.
