BREAKING: Coroner Concludes Investigation, Reveals What Killed Sylvester Oromoni
The Coroner Inquest convened at the Ogba Magistrate Court, probing the demise of 12-year-old Dowen College student Sylvester Junior Oromoni has concluded its probe.
The coroner attributed his death to parental and medical neglect.
Presiding Coroner Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri concluded that Oromoni’s demise stemmed from inadequate treatment for his liver enlargement condition, marking November 30, 2021, as the date of his death.
Initially, his demise was linked to bullying and an alleged forced ingestion of a toxic substance at the school, with the involvement of five senior students named Favour Benjamin, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, Kenneth Inyang, and Michael Kashamu, son of late Senator Buruji Kashamu, all aged between 14 and 16.
However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government absolved the aforementioned students and five Dowen College employees of any culpability in Oromoni’s death.
Kadiri emphasized, “Based on the foregoing it is clear that the deceased’s health deteriorated in (doctor) PW 3’s care. PW 3 did not take proper care of the deceased, completely abandoning him for over 32 hours.”
He continued, “The deceased’s death was an avoidable one but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3, they didn’t take him to the hospital until the day he died on November 30, 2021. The deceased went through an avoidable and excruciating pain and made to suffer needlessly.”
