BREAKING: 42 Feared Killed As Bandits Attack Zamfara Communities

On Thursday evening, bandits killed 42 persons in five towns in the Faru sector of Zamfara State’s Maradun Local Government Area.

Tsauni, Gudan-Baushi, Gidan-Adamu, Wari, and Gudan-Maidawa are among the communities impacted.

Malam Buba Faru, an indigene of the area, said the criminals, who were riding over 100 motorcycles, invaded the hamlet a few kilometers east of Faru town.

According to Buba, the bandits shot indiscriminately at the inhabitants and set fire to their homes and stores.

“They were shooting sporadically at people they came across in the five communities. They also attacked farmers who were in their farmlands cultivating their crops.

“So far, 42 dead bodies have been recovered by the security and volunteer groups in the area.”

Buba said the bodies were to be buried on Friday in accordance with Islamic traditions.

In a phone chat with The PUNCH, Mohammed Shehu, the state Police Command’s spokesperson, revealed that just 35 persons were slain in the five communities.

Their bodies were carried to Faru town and buried there, according to him.

Shehu added that due to the road network, the police were unable to reach the impacted communities in a timely manner when they were told of the bandits’ attack.

“The police personnel tried their best to reach the affected communities on receiving the information that the bandits were there but unfortunately they could not reach the places because of the bad roads,” he said.

He maintained that the “police are currently working tirelessly” to arrest the bandits.
