Beef up security around Tinubu, OPC tells security agencies

The Reformed Oodua People’s Congress (Reformed) has called on security agencies to immediately beef up security around the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on May 29.

The National President of the group, Dare Adesope, who made the call in a statement on Friday said this was necessary following alleged threats by some politicians who are still opposing his victory and the forthcoming inauguration.

While specifically referring to the Department of State Services and Defence House, Adesope urged the security bodies to be alert and also urged aggrieved politicians to stop heating up the polity with their utterances.

According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to go backward again since winners emerged in the election.

Adesope said many expected that the election would turn out bloody but “we thank God that all went well and tension doused.”

The reformed OPC leader further stated that although the election might not be perfect as there was no perfect system anywhere in the world, it was surprising that some groups of people could still be inciting the public against the President-elect and his inauguration.

He said, “That is why OPC (reformed) would want the security agencies to know that “those threats are too sensitive to be ignored and should therefore take proactive steps.”
