Wike Strikes As FCTA Demolishes Multimillion Naira Duplex In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday, demolished a multimillion naira duplex built on plot 226 Cadastral Zone, in Wuse Zone 6, an unapproved land.

This was made known by the Director, Department of Development Control, Mr Mukhtar Galadima.

Galadima said that the building was illegally developed against all warnings, adding that his team had carried out an extensive investigation to ascertain the original owner of the plot, given varying claims that were being put forth by the parties.

Recall shortly after the FCT minister, Nyeson Wike was sworn in by President Tinubu, he vowed that the FCT administration would bring down all buildings that contravened the FCT masterplan.

As the new sheriff in town, he said: “It is not going to be business as usual. Those distorting Abuja Master Plan: if you build where you are not supposed to, the building will go down.

“If you build on a green area, sorry, it will go down. For those who were allocated land and refused to develop them, we will revoke such lands and re-allocate them to those who are ready to develop them.

“Those who don’t pay ground rent, we will not notify them to do so, but I will not be tired of signing revocation notices.

Speaking further, the FCTA director noted that investigations revealed that the developer was not the owner of the plot, adding, ”that is why we had to remove the building.”

He corroborated Wike’s warning by adding that the FCT Administration will not consider the status of any defaulting developer once development rules and regulations are violated.

Galadima said: “We demolished the duplex because somebody built it on someone else’s land without a valid title and building plan approval.”

“We allowed the building to this stage before demolishing it because we had to follow all due processes,” he said.

According to The Whistler, Galadima revealed the building was said to belong to the late Alake of Egba Land, Oba Oye Lipede, but was taken over by Ibrahim Kamba and Ademu Teku, who constructed the duplex against all warnings.
