Atiku’s Top Ally Reveals Their Mistake That Led To PDP’s Loss To Tinubu

A top ally of former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has expressed his view on what he considers the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) biggest mistake during the 2023 presidential election.

Recall that Atiku was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 election which they lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, with Bola Tinubu as the winner.

The ally of Atiku, Reno Omokri, believes that the failure to nominate the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the vice-presidential candidate was a strategic error.

Omokri argues that had Wike been the vice-presidential candidate, the PDP could have secured victory by winning key states such as Oyo, Abia, Rivers, Enugu, and Benue. In a post on X, he emphasized the significance of Wike’s potential influence in these states and how it could have made a difference in the election outcome.

“The biggest mistake we made in the PDP during the #NigerianElections2023 was not giving Wike the vice presidential slot of our party. By how many votes did we lose to the APC? Less than two million. If we had a running mate like Wike, we would have gotten that collectively from Rivers, Oyo, Abia, Enugu, and Benue with the G-5,” Omokri stated.

He underscored the importance of strategic decisions in politics, emphasizing that in politics, one should do what is necessary rather than what one likes. Omokri acknowledged that under normal circumstances, a personality as assertive as Wike might not easily assume a follower’s role, but he believes that in politics, strategic decisions often require unconventional choices.
