APC wants Oshiomhole arrested over lockdown violation

The leadership of ruling All Progressives Congress,(APC) Edo State chapter has called on officials of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the police to arrest, quarantine and isolate some party stakeholders for violation the social distancing principle and lockdown orders of the government.

The party said those involved included elders and leaders, as well as some members of the National Assembly.

It said the arrest of the party members who recently gathered in the state for a mock primary to select a candidate of the APC for the forthcoming party primaries had become important to ascertain if they are safe in view of the ravaging spread of the virus across the country.

Stakeholders of the APC, including leaders and elders drawn from across the three senatorial districts of the state under the umbrella of Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) which membership is loyal to the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had last week, converged on the residence of former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Lucky Imasuen in Benin, the state capital, to conduct a mock primary election to select a governorship candidate who is to contest against the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed June 2 this year for the APC gubernatorial primaries and September 19 for the governorship polls respectively.

But the leadership of the APC loyal to Obaseki and the state government during a press briefing yesterday in Benin City expressed disappointment that the mock exercise allegedly orchestrated by the EPM in collaboration with Oshiomhole
