Outrage As Enugu Police Officer ‘Beats Up’ Young Lady At Checkpoint [Video]

While on duty at a checkpoint in Obeagu Awkunanaw, along Agbani Road, in the State, a police officer engaged a young lady in an altercation and physical assault, according to a viral video.

According to the DAILY POST, the officer, who has yet to be identified, was seen assaulting a woman over a disagreement in a video that has gone viral on social media. Residents gathered to watch the incident.

The video has sparked uproar, with many Nigerians calling for the officer to be punished.

In response to the viral video, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, stated that the Command will not tolerate acts of “unprofessionalism by personnel under his supervision.”

The Commissioner authorized the State Criminal Inquiry and Intelligence Department (State CIID) to commence a prompt investigation and disciplinary discipline of the officer involved in the assault, according to the command’s spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe.

The command issued a statement warning officers against such behavior.

The CP also advised the witnesses and victim to contact the State CID in order to withdraw their statements, which would aid the inquiry.

The statement reads in part, “The CP, while condemning the conduct of the Policeman as shown in the video, has warned personnel of the Command against conducting themselves unprofessionally or disrespecting the fundamental human rights of citizens while performing their duties. He made it clear that anyone found wanting will be made to face maximum disciplinary sanctions.

“Also, residents of the State have been enjoined to promptly report Police Officers of the Command found conducting themselves in an unprofessional manner to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.
