Akwa Ibom: Gunmen Invade Hospital, Kidnap Doctor On Duty
Gunmen stormed the Ikot Ekpa Cottage hospital in Akwa Ibom State’s Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and kidnapped Dr Felix Ekpo, a senior medical professional on duty.
Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, Secretary of the State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, claimed the incident occurred on Tuesday in a statement delivered to press in Uyo on Wednesday.
The group said it was in communication with key security agencies in the State to ensure the safety and unconditional release of the abducted doctor, while encouraging members to stay calm and alert in their duty posts.
The group also called on the state government to investigate the case, threatening to shut down if the victim was not released within 48 hours.
“To this end, we humbly request the Government to deploy all of its rich security machinery towards the urgent and critical task of rescuing Dr Ekpo, who is not only a citizen but also an employee of Government, kidnapped in the line of duty, right at his place of duty, as assigned to him by Government,” the statement added.
