“98% of Coronavirus patients can recover without medicine” – NCDC

The Nigeria centre for disease control, NCDC, has stated that coronavirus patients can recover with or without medicine.

This statement was made by the DG of the NCDC, Mr Chikwe Ihekweazu on Wednesday during the daily Presidential taskforce briefing on COVID-19. The briefing which was closely monitored by NEWS DIRECT was set up to update Nigerians on the battle against the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

“95 to 98% of all patients will recover from this illness irrespective of medical intervention. So depending on where you are, many patients are asymptomatic like you know, they would recover. All you need to do is keep them…the only reason we are keeping in hospitals or treatment centres is to prevent transmissions to others as much as possible.” Ihekweazu said.

The DG allayed the fears of Nigerians by saying that having the virus was not an ‘immediate death sentence”.

“So, 5-15% depending on where you are will have severe illness. Some will, unfortunately, pass away. Most people recover. A much larger percentage of everyone infected from this disease recovers than many other viral illnesses that we know.”

“So, I don’t think we need to be as despondent as we appear to be. we are faced with a big challenge, yes, but its immediately not a death sentence” he disclosed.
