60 Dies In Cholera Outbreak In Katsina

The cholera pandemic that has ravaged some northern regions has now extended to Katsina, killing at least 60 people.

Commissioner for Health, Yakubu Danja, made the announcement at the Nigerian Medical Association’s (NMA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Katsina Secretariat complex this year.

Drugs have been made available for delivery to hospitals across the state, according to the Health Commissioner.

According to Danja, cholera outbreak prevention and control, as well as active case search surveillance, are ongoing across the State’s 34 LGAs.

“Presently, we have over 1,400 confirmed cases of cholera with over 60 recorded dead,” he said.

He admonished residents to always keep their environment neat, observe frequent hand washing, maintain proper food hygiene, washing fruits, vegetables before consumption and also ensure that foods are properly cooked.

Similarly, he tasked food vendors to always ensure that their food items are well covered to avoid contamination.
