NNPC Reacts As Long Queues Resurface In Lagos, Other States Over Fuel
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has acknowledged the presence of fuel queues in certain parts of Lagos and other locations in the country, citing reduced Depot loadout in Apapa, Lagos State, over a few days as the cause.
However, the NNPC has assured the public that there is ample supply with a sufficiency of at least 30 days, and the root cause of the queues has been resolved. The company emphasized that Nigerians need not engage in panic buying, as distribution will normalize in the coming days.
“We assure all Nigerians that there is ample supply with sufficiency of at least 30 days,” the statement said. The NNPC, however, advised motorists to desist from panic buying as distribution will normalise over the next couple of days.
“NNPC Retail Ltd. notes the appearance of fuel queues in some parts of Lagos and a few other locations around the country. This is due to reduced Depot loadout in Apapa, Lagos over a few days, and the root cause has since been addressed.
The last significant queues at petrol stations occurred in May following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the end to fuel subsidy during his inauguration. Tinubu justified the move by stating that the 2023 budget did not allocate funds for fuel subsidy, leading to scarcity and long queues across the country.
